June's GOOD VIBES! Spotlight on Dr. David Lipman from Physical Evidence Chiropractic. We had a great interview with him! Read it here in the newsletter. He has a lot to say about vibrational therapy, his use of the Rapid Release Therapy PRO2, and the results he's gotten for his patients.

"Within the first 24 hours of using it, I saw such a dramatic change over what I was used to using..."
Dr. David Lipman, Physical Evidence Chiropractic

RRT: What is the name of your practice?

Dr. Lipman: Physical Evidence Chiropractic.

RRT: How long have you been in practice?

Dr. Lipman: Since 1986. Thirty-four years.

RRT: How did you hear about Rapid Release Therapy and what made you decide to purchase?

Dr. Lipman: I always keep my eyes open for new technologies. New technologies that can either help me do what I'm currently doing better and more efficiently. Or, something that perhaps I've never seen before that I can implement and integrate into my overall treatment protocol. In the case of Rapid Release Technology, I'm fairly certain I had received an email and due to the pandemic, (I have a little bit more time on my hands than I usually do to actually look at certain things).

It caught my attention because a big thrust of what I do all the time is to release muscle tension and restriction. There's been a time and probably through the majority of my practice years that I was using my own hands for that. It would take a toll over time because all of that was manual. It was effective, but was a lot of wear and tear on me. It took more time to actually get those things to be released. In some cases, with the patient too, when there's more inflammation, it's uncomfortable.

I started to find some of the percussive technologies in recent years. I went through and found what I thought to be the best of the best. Because I happen to be using whole-body vibration as one of the components in my practice, usually at the end of a practice treatment where the patient's already been re-engineered and released, the whole-body vibration and series of stretches reinforce the changes I just made.

So, the fact that Rapid Release turned out to be vibrational technology was a positive. I already had a belief system in it because I utilize vibrational therapy in a different way, not locally, but whole-body-wise in the practice. It's a huge component of helping to get people better. I use it myself daily, as a preventive thing, and it helps me stretch out. That was the thing that, at least mentally, cued me in to say, let's see what this is about. This might be something important because I had never really seen a vibrational device like this. I had used things like the Thumper and other ones over the years, but they are more percussive.

The Rapid Release Technology really drew me in. My decision to buy it was because I spoke with Calvin and he gave me an opportunity to “try it out” and really see “hands-on.” How does it work? It was a "nothing to lose" kind of thing. This gave me ample time to utilize it on patients, and if for any reason I found that it was ineffective and not worth purchasing and utilizing, I had an opportunity to give it back. When you're faced with something you already have a free belief in, it's an easy yes.

I'm so glad I did because, within the first 24 hours of using it, (I even called Calvin to tell him), I saw such a dramatic change over what I was used to using and the percussive devices in terms of how comfortable it is for the patient. Even with inflammation and discomfort, I'm able to quickly release restrictions and restore movement.

Now, a big part of the difference is the comfort to the patient because the vibrational technology has a much better way of addressing the pain. The vibrational sense registers faster. Percussion doesn't do that. A lot of patients that were very sensitive to percussion and couldn't even use it, were easily accepting of the vibrational technology. Again, it was more comfortable for the patient and a much quicker release of restrictions, which for me is a big part of the treatment. Those were the things that went into my decisions of why I chose it, how I found it, and how I've been implementing it as well.

RRT: How do you use Rapid Release Therapy in your practice? What are your observations and results?

Dr. Lipman: Just in the last four or five days since we were seeing patients one, two, or three a day, now we're seeing like six, seven, and eight a day. Since it's a shorter time than I've had the PRO2, I have more patients who have actually utilized this. I have even started to experiment with my protocols because new patients haven't experienced all the things I was doing previously. With several people, I was able to utilize this as the sole way of releasing restrictions and tension. That's a big part of the first step in treatment before I do the actual joint manipulations.

With existing patients, I would typically spend about 30 minutes to get everything done that needed to be done. I've seen consistently that there's about a 10-minute gap where I'm already getting an efficiency there for getting the same thing done in 20 minutes that was taking 30 minutes previously. And, where it was taking me almost a full hour with a new patient, (and that's with taking more time to really assess what's going on with them, looking at them from top to bottom), that I'm actually able to shave off about 15-20 minutes in terms of time spent with them. But again, not sacrificing any effectiveness or results, but because of the technology being able to get in an efficient way, the same result sooner in a given treatment pattern, protocol, or treatment for a given day for that patient.

RRT: You've talked about percussion devices. What do you see as the difference between the percussion and the vibration devices?

Dr. Lipman: First is the comfort to the patient. In the case of percussion because of hypersensitivity, they're ticklish and it hurts at the same time. It just creates the hypersensitivity of having those two sensations. In many cases, I'd have to put the percussion device down because it wouldn't allow me to do what I'm setting out to do, which is to loosen things up and release them. Their reaction to it is too extreme and it won't allow the process to happen. Specifically, there are three or four patients that have always been in that situation. When I first received the Rapid Release Therapy PRO2, I was anxious to try it on them. I thought intuitively that perhaps because of the technology being vibrational instead of percussive, they'd be able to accept the technology and I'd be able to get the work done. (That doesn't seem to happen with the percussion because of that hypersensitivity in discomfort.) But, it happened in each and every case with vibration therapy.

Secondly, now I'm able to get efficiency in terms of releasing restrictions and sort of re-engineering, recalibrating, and rebooting that musculoskeletal system in less time than it's been taking me with the percussive device. Unless I had something to compare it to, I would have thought that I was already doing as best as I can from the time efficiency standpoint. But now I see with the PRO2 that is not in fact the case, that this (in both new and old patients) has brought me an efficiency that I haven't seen with the percussive devices.

RRT: After your experiences and your patients' results with Rapid Release Therapy, how do you feel about the price of the PRO2?

Dr. Lipman: I think that the PRO2, as a practitioner, is very fairly priced. Already I'm seeing increased efficiency in time and still getting the results I'm used to. And I dare say possibly better results because of how completely I'm able to really alleviate muscle restrictions and tension. With the process of how I've been using it and adapting it to my style, from a cost perspective, I'm potentially able to see more patients in the same time. I may be able to see a whole other patient in that time just as effectively. It really pays for itself in the sense of being able to actually do more in less time. I've spent more money on less effective things—let’s put it that way.

RRT: Do you have any tips for others – professionals, practitioners, or consumers?

Dr. Lipman: Yes, where I've had the opportunity to recommend some of the percussive devices with patients that got nice results from them here and felt that they wanted to have something at home as a tool to do on a regular basis. Now, I'm certainly going to be recommending the PRO2 as that personal device because of the way it even more completely alleviates that muscular tension. The efficiency of doing it, especially in the case of a husband and wife because of his tension from the day, and if he can get the same thing done in three or four minutes instead of 10 or 15 minutes, he's gonna be happy and she's gonna be happy.

From athletes to people that have strict regimens of training and the need for recovery, the quicker they can implement those tools to get to those recovery places and get those improvements is going to be more efficient for them as well. This becomes a great recovery tool for the wear and tear that their body goes through, and enables them to perform again the next day. I do have a lot of competitive patients in terms of athletes: tennis, golf, triathlons, some of them lifting, CrossFit, and even bodybuilders and women. Fitness people whose bodies go through such huge, daily wear and tear from just the training itself. When you have something that can effectively help mitigate and have a countermeasure against all the wear and tear from their activities, it prepares them to perform better the next day. Career athletes are always looking to improve their recovery. I think the price points for them will probably be reasonable. I'm certain they spend a lot of money on those types of things. They spend money here not only with the chiropractic, but also with the whole body cryotherapy, and the photobio modulation. Those are things that, again, they're investing in from a recovery standpoint. The PRO2 is going to be something I want them to see and really consider.

For the everyday person, just sitting at a computer all day who has a lot of tension, you could spend five minutes a day undoing all that. That's really going to help give people an opportunity to not have all that stuff build up in that way.

Also, I’d like to say this, which I didn't mention specifically, the way the different heads are positioned makes it able to change to the different contours and body surfaces very rapidly. I'm already finding that certain surfaces of the PRO2 are great for certain surfaces in the body. In a moment with a slight turn of my wrist, I can get that other one immediately ready. I don't have to pop up to put another extension piece on. Instead, I'm able to transition very seamlessly from one to the other as I'm going down from the neck into the upper trap area, down between the shoulder blade and the spine, and then getting down to the thicker erector muscles and then into the glutes. Being able to have something that can quickly transition with just a twist of the hand to accommodate those surfaces is efficient and I have all that at my disposal in one device.
